![]() A fibre-optic, light-sensitive key press interfaced with the PsyScope Button Box (New Micros, Dallas, Texas) was used to record participants’ behavioral. Participants viewed the screen through a mirror. The students were typically able to create their own projects in 2 h. Stimuli were projected to participants with an Epson (model ELP-7000) LCD projector onto a screen positioned at the head end of the bore. Many PsyScope users already possess and use a Button Box as a response interface for subjects, but may be unaware of its potential as an interfacing device. Such testing will improve the approach with each semester. The Button Box houses three large colored response keys that can be used as response keys for any PsyScope script. Stage 2 testing identified additional bugs to be corrected and new features to be considered to facilitate student understanding of the experiment model. Findings from the individual testing in Stage 1 resulted in significant changes to documentation and training materials and identification of bugs to be corrected. In both individual and classroom testing, the students learned to effectively use PEAK within 2 h, and were able to create a lexical decision experiment in under 10 min. Formal usability testing was done in two stages: (1) detailed coding of 10 individual subjects in one-on-one experimenter/subject videotaped sessions and (2) classroom testing of 64 undergraduates. The participant was instructed to use the index finger of their preferred hand and to keep their finger poised above the middle (i.e., yellow) button at the start of each trial. ![]() ![]() The coloured buttons on the PsyScope button box are ordered, left to right, red, yellow and green. The application then executes experiments with centisecond precision. The duration of the button press was not recorded. Students fill in a spreadsheet listing of independent variables and stimuli, insert columns that represent experimental objects such as slides (presenting text, pictures, and sounds) and feedback displays to create complete experiments, all within a single spreadsheet. The Psychology Experiment Authoring Kit (PEAK) is a novel spreadsheet-based interface allowing students and researchers with rudimentary spreadsheet skills to create cognitive and cognitive neuroscience experiments in minutes. In academic courses in which one task for the students is to understand empirical methodology and the nature of scientific inquiry, the ability of students to create and implement their own experiments allows them to take intellectual ownership of, and greatly facilitates, the learning process.

![]() The idea of a big single is to draw listeners in, get the airplay that artists long for after grinding away in a rat-infested bedsit in London (at least in a-ha’s case). This is not a frowning at the signature song as a concept. Thanks to those damned playlists, MTV’s influence and radio’s fondness for playing big hits to absolute death – and then some – some of the most beloved 80s acts still fall victim to the signature-song syndrome. Let’s look at The Human League, Depeche Mode, New Order and Spandau Ballet. Then there’s the problem of being so strongly tied to one era. The issue is exacerbated today, when an abundance of playlists (80s Workout! 80s Chill!, 80s Party!) continually serve these tunes at the expense of deeper dives into an artist’s work. Look at Falco, Alphaville, Laid Back or, hell, Europe – despite hefty back catalogues and commendable success in many countries, they’re all permanently attached to one signature track in the UK. They perform in English, sure, but, like many European acts, the uninitiated can sometimes treat a-ha as a novelty act. “Signature-song” syndromeįirstly, they’re Norwegian. It seems a-ha have a different problem, likely due to two fundamental reasons. Yet none of them are tied to just one single track, however popular With Or Without You, Sweet Child O’ Mine or Dancing In The Dark remain. Take U2, Bruce Springsteen or even Guns N’ Roses: all active during the 80s, they took lengthy breaks and returned with polarising results, doing their fair share of experimentation along the way. Still, dozens of big names have fallen victim to half-hearted returns and dud records. The first half of Minor Earth Major Sky, the 2000 comeback album that brought a seven-year hiatus to an end, is excellent, but 2015’s Cast In Steel, recorded after a second reunion, was a disappointing and largely unmemorable development. ![]() Critics panned 1991’s Move To Memphis for cashing in on the grunge craze (a little harsh the single version was a step up from the original effort), while the band’s tendency to disappear and reappear has been met with mixed results. ![]() That said, a-ha’s catalogue is not perfect. Nine times out of ten, however, if a radio DJ mentions them, the next track after the break will be Take On Me. Granted, most listeners aren’t serious a-ha fans, but the fact remains: the Norwegian trio have an incredible back catalogue. Any serious a-ha fan will tell you of the wonders of The Sun Always Shines On T.V., the surreptitious love song I’ve Been Losing You and the monumental vocal range displayed by frontman Morten Harket on Summer Moved On. So why is a-ha’s wider discography largely ignored? Could Take On Me just be that good? Well, no. Cementing a-ha’s place in the pop firmament, on 19 October 1985, a year to the day after the first version was released, the re-recorded Take On Me topped the US charts.īut it’s Take On Me’s very success that overshadows a-ha’s other material – you know, their ten studio records and 30-plus singles, at least a third of which hit No.1 in various countries around the world, from the UK to Belarus to Argentina. Reworked as Take On Me, the song then went through a re-recording and two passes at a promo video before becoming a smash hit that reached No.2 on the UK singles chart and broke No.1 almost everywhere else – including the group’s homeland of Norway – in 1985. Originally released on 19 October 1984, it was known as The Juicy Fruit Song when a-ha predecessors bridges wrote it. Many people think a-ha are a one-hit wonder. ![]() Multiply the mm 2 value by 1000000 to get m 2 Multiply the mm 2 value by 0.000001 to get cm 2 Multiply the cm 2 value by 100 to get mm 2 Multiply the cm 2 value by 0.0001 to get mm 2 Multiply the m 2 value by 10 000 to get cm 2 Multiply the m 2 value by 1000000 to get mm 2 ![]() To convert among square feet, square inches, square yards, square centimetres, square millimetres and square meters you can utilize the following conversion table.

Final words: It's not all what it's advertised to be. We asked housekeeping for directions more than once. Staff was helpful, as it is not easy to navigate all of the hallways to find your way around. We were told we could only get that from sit-down restaurants. We looked for coffee or hot chocolate, but none was available in the open area. The open area near the Wheel and carousel needs a drink kiosk other than alcohol. Very little is covered in the area, so standing in the rain took away from the fire shows at the time. The water & fire show is pretty good, but it was sprinkling rain. And only one restaurant (soda shop) appeared to be a good choice for kids. Landry's was by reservation only at the time of our visit. I have an idea that was the end of it right there. We were told we would "hear something" via email within 7-10 days. Several others were in line with us also requesting refunds for the same reason. We then stood in another long line to ask for a refund. We've been to aquariums all over the USA, and this one doesn't compare to any others whatsoever. What a disappointment! There is very little in there to see - very few exhibits, other than sticking your hand in water for the minnows to nibble at your fingers. Stood in long line for two hours after basically being forced to purchase an expensive annual aquarium pass, as that was the only way they were letting people in (supposedly because of the large crowd). The aquarium is a joke (surely there will be more added?). Drove 3+ hrs to stay overnight at Union Station and visit the new aquarium. If you are already familiar with Splunk, then you know that it set the standard in Big Data platforms for real-time, actionable insights. Shameless plug: If you are interested in Splunking SAP data, look at this other blog post that I authored. When you are looking for modern solutions for Big Data, SAP cannot deliver the best answer yet-not like Splunk can-and that’s why we want to Splunk SAP. When it comes to modern features that we are well-accustomed to using in other products, you’ll find SAP ERP just isn’t there yet it’s constantly in a state of catching up. When it comes to innovation, you can only turn a ship the size of SAP’s ERP in very deliberate and conservative increments. The issue is that while business operations don’t evolve that quickly, technology does. ![]() In fact, it’s been around since the early ‘70s and is a true powerhouse at what it does. “Jack of all trades, master of none” they say… It’s already very difficult for a company to build excellent software for a specific field or purpose, and if it’s now targeted at more than one field or one purpose, it’s exponentially more difficult to excel. You might ask, why can’t SAP do both? While technically possible, there will be compromises. That’s where Splunk comes in as software that’s specifically designed to consolidate all the day-to-day business and performance data for the purposes of reports, analytics, insights or monitoring. But what about when you want to create Big Data reports and analytics to leverage years of business data? It is an excellent system designed to get day-to-day things done to keep the business running. Now, we ask ourselves: why should we have all the fun when we can share benefits with other users? I've copied and paste the message error I have in the windows pop-up below if someone has any clue regarding that. Parallels is working on getting WindowsOnArm to work in a VM, and Microsoft is working to get 64-bit app compatibility working on WindowsOnArm. Here's a video of someone running AutoCAD 圆4 and trying to install Revit on a bleeding-edge Dev version of WindowsOnArm with 圆4 support, running on a development version of Parallels. Here we are in Feb 2021, and I'm curious to see how the software develops over the next several months.) (Remember, this is a Dev version of Windows and a pre-release version of Parallels 16 from Dec 2020. Running 64-bit Windows on M1 Mac with Parallels 16 | AutoCAD, Revit & Gami. What we're all waiting for is software compatibility at multiple points from multiple vendors before even getting to Autodesk choosing to develop a Mac-native Revit version. (I read years ago that Graphicsoft has a slight majority in the EU and Vectorworks had a majority in Asia, but those stats are years old.) Personally, I want to maintain file-format compatibility with the AEC industry in the US, while using the OS of my choice. Perhaps if Microsoft would create their own "transparent framework translation" similar to WINE, that would be another potential solution. But I see that less likely than Autodesk making Revit Mac-native. I see people running Revit on a Mac in the future because it's the combination they choose to. If I remember correctly, Autodesk had some people move their AutoCAD seats from Windows to Mac when they brought ACAD back to the Mac, but they also had an increase in their user base by gaining new users from the Mac world. I can only think something similar will happen if (preferably when) Revit is brought to the Mac.Įven if a Mac specific version of Revit is not developed, Microsoft's expansion to ARM processors, and AMD's looking to purchase ARM, combined with Intel's year's-long fumbling on development, ought to help push ARM into the mainstream on the Windows side. So surely you must accept that you can run more software that architects use on Windows. It's not just Revit, 3ds max and the full version of AutoCAD also don't run on MacOS. Now that Apple have given up on dedicated GPUs for their laptops and the Mini, it also rules out most 3D and rendering apps (Vray, Lumion, Twinmotion etc.). Even software available to run on MacOS (such as ArchiCAD and SketchUp) doesn't run as well as on a machine with dedicated graphics. ![]() Adobe software is the latest problem, because Apples block upgrades to their OS, even on quite recent MacBook Pros, which in turn blocks most Adobe apps on subscription. The workaround for the ones still with intel CPUs is to simply switch over to Windows, which will of course allow the Adobe software to be installed without a problem (even though it doesn't run as well as on a PC running Windows). Whenever I have a student with problem with these programs I generally can tell without asking that they are using a Mac. ![]() I've been teaching a whole range of architectural software as part of a degree program for many years, and I'm always amazed by the number of new students who falsely believe Apple computers are better for the work we do, when in fact the opposite is true. I have seen before my eyes a row of PC laptops (often fairly cheap but with dedicated graphics) seriously outperform much more expensive MacBook Pros sitting next to them, performing the same tasks. Then you have the glitches and poor UI (or UX) of the MacOS and the confusion created by the introduction of M1. So for how expensive this palette is, it must be good and these swatches do not lie. It’s got enough interest as you will see in the swatches and look below that it can work on a range of different skin tones. The other 4 shades are all quite mid-toned so this is really the kind of palette that will not be super versatile but it’s got some great basics that can really make for a good neutral eye look. So yes, this is a 5-pan all matte color story with different taupes. So yes, it’s a bit boring and basic, but I feel that this is a great beginners palette and one you can really get a lot of use out of if you wear the same look every single day. All the shades are matte, so you might not expect me to like this much, but this palette is such a great allrounder and really all you need is a few fun shimmers, multichromes or liquid glitter shadows to amp this up and take it to the next level. What this is, is essentially 5 different shades of taupe. The Pretty Cool is as the name suggests, a pretty cool palette. If you are looking for great, blendable mattes though that are easy to use, then definitely check this one out. ![]() In the US they are a bit less expensive at $32 a pop, so I would definitely recommend waiting for some sort of sale. These small palettes are quite expensive though: nearly €40 for just 5 shades. The brand is now stocked at if you are in The Netherlands. I bought my palette off Beauty Bay, but since then the brand has disappeared from there.
